CancerCare, Inc. CancerCare is a national non-profit organization that provides free professional support services to anyone affected by cancer: people with cancer, caregivers, children, loved ones, and the bereaved. CancerCare programs-including counseling, education, financial assistance and practical help-are provided by trained oncology social workers and are completely free of charge. Founded in 1944, CancerCare now provides individual help to more than 90,000 people each year, in addition to the more than one million people who gain information and resources from its website. Resources for NBCAM Program Planners
CancerCare's oncology social workers provide guidance and support to patients and loved ones through on-site, on-line, and telephone support groups; seminars, workshops, and clinics; and telephone education workshops. Extensive information about cancer, psychosocial concerns, and referrals to other resources is available through the web site at www.cancercare.org. Financial assistance is provided for costs related to treatment, such as transportation, childcare and homecare. CancerCare also offers diagnosis-specific programs; programs for children, adolescents, older adults, and caregivers; bereavement and spirituality programs; and worksite counseling.
The toll-free line is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Eastern Time at (800) 813-HOPE (4673).
CancerCare Connect - telephone educational workshops - are a simple, innovative use of the telephone that provides people with cancer, their loved ones, caregivers, and professionals free information on various health care issues in the comfort of their homes or offices. Register on-line or call toll-free at (800) 813-HOPE (4673). The workshops are also available via RealAudio by accessing www.cancercare.org.
The convenience and efficacy of the Internet can be vital for someone with cancer. CancerCare Online - a program of one-to-one and group support on the Internet - can be accessed through www.cancercare.org or by emailing info@cancercare.org. CancerCare professional social workers answer your individual questions through email, and conduct facilitated, password-protected online groups that allow people with cancer and caregivers from all over the country to connect from their homes to support each other.
For health care professionals working with people who have cancer, CancerCare offers a variety of seminars, workshops, and teleconferences. Designed for all levels of oncology care, these sessions are provided onsite as well as over the telephone. Selected topics include:

This resource guide is available in print or as a searchable database on the CancerCare website.
- Fact Sheets - general one-page briefs focusing on a specific cancer topic. You can download these and print them to distribute at health fairs, other community organizations, and to your friends.
- Connect Booklets - CancerCare Connect Booklets are informational booklets summarizing selected topics from our Telephone Education Workshops. There are currently eight in the series: Controlling Cancer Pain, Recent Developments in Breast Cancer Treatment, Emerging Therapies in Colorectal Cancer, Managing Diarrhea, Living with Prostate Cancer, Coping with Lung Cancer, Latest Updates in Treatment and Research, and Mouth Pain and Discomfort.
